It would seem that employers today think they have the right to control what their employees do even outside of work. The SCOTTS COMPANY recently instituted a policy by which they say they will fire employees who continue to smoke, even at home. I think Scotts as well as other companies are stepping over the line here.
How long will it be before companies start to tell us what we can do outside of work?
How about drinking a few beers watching the game or having a couple of drinks at dinner? We hear a lot about how smokers cost companies more than non-smoking employees which I’m sure is true. However what is the cost of other not so healthy activities employees are involved in at work or outside of work.
They seem to never address the drinking issues. I wonder if it’s because a lot of them drink?
The American worker is being raped by their employers! Just ask the employees of any company that has reduced or done away with employee retirement plans or the employee medical coverage workers were promised for years.
The companies seem to think they are not obligated to honor their commitments to their workers, but yet we are expected to honor ours to the letter. Even if the letter changes in mid stream.
